TDW announces 14-Inch MDS™ Flex capability powered by Ultra Res MFL technology
TULSA, Oklahoma, August 5, 2026 — TDW today announced the availability of its 14-inch MDS Flex inspection capability, expanding access to the company's next-generation metal loss and geometry assessment platform powered by Ultra Res MFL technology. The new capability provides pipeline operators with more reliable inspection data to more accurately detect, characterize and prioritize metal loss, geometry anomalies and hard spots.
MDS Flex combines TDW's proven MDS platform architecture with Ultra Res MFL technology to deliver cleaner inspection signals, improved anomaly characterization and greater confidence in integrity assessments. Through increased sensor density, uniform sensor spacing and superior sensor contact, the system helps operators make better-informed integrity decisions while reducing operational risk and total pipeline operating costs.

Designed to deliver fundamentally more reliable MFL data than conventional high-resolution systems, Ultra Res MFL features twice the sensor density of previous designs.
The tool's nested mechanical arm design helps maintain consistent sensor contact throughout the inspection run, reducing sensor roll and lift-off while improving data consistency. The result is stronger, cleaner signals and more reliable inspection performance run after run.
Beyond corrosion assessment, the 14-inch MDS Flex capability provides operators with insight into multiple threat categories during a single inspection run. The system supports the detection and characterization of corrosion and metal loss features, geometry anomalies, hard spots and even interacting threats such as dents with associated metal loss. It also enables run-to-run comparison with the MDS Pro platform, supporting more comprehensive integrity management strategies.
