Feasibility Studies

Feasibility studies help pipeline owners and operators determine the most viable and safest solutions for offshore interventions, including the specific application of SmartPlug® isolation technology and the SmartTrack™ pipeline pig tracking system

Based on the results of site visits, system data, and other input, feasibility studies describe the problem-solving options available to operators. For first-time technology users, the feasibility study also provides a primer about inline inspection tools and techniques.

A typical feasibility study includes:

  • Engineering analysis.
  • Step-by-step methodology for technology deployment.
  • Piggability assessment, including recommendations about pigging medium, flow control, and any adjustments that need to be made to the inline tool.
  • Assessment to ensure permissible pipeline stresses are not compromised (relating to SmartPlug isolation operation, not general pipe stress capability).
  • Budget.
  • Schedule.
  • Plans for mobilization and de-mobilization.

  • How long does it take to prepare a feasibility study? How soon will I have my results? A typical feasibility study for SmartPlug® isolation technology, for example, takes about six weeks to prepare. That includes a site visit by one of our engineers, if required.
  • How will I receive my results? Most customers prefer to receive an electronic study report. Hard copy by mail is also available.
