BASIC FUNCTION:
Maintains tools and technologies required to accurately inspect pipe in various pipe diameters and product medium. This includes addressing current tool issues through root cause analysis and designing and implementing solutions. Provides design support for new tool runs. Works with all aspects of mechanical piece parts assemblies and equipment for in-line inspection tools.
ABILITIES
- Addresses tool issues and determines root cause through use of Six Sigma or other analysis tools and working closely with suppliers. Communicates and implements solutions.
- Builds appropriate and effective customer and internal communications in the form of technical reports and presentations.
- Performs Finite Element Modeling to determine the acceptable strength and long term performance of various piece parts required for ILI tools and the supporting equipment.
- Conducts product integrity tests, to prove out design concepts, and product reliability tests, documenting the results clearly.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of all aspects of assigned products/projects in regard to applications, design standards and procedures, manufacturing techniques, etc., in order to provide technical direction.
- Prepares all necessary documentation, including assembly drawings, Bill of Materials and engineering changes to be used to complete engineering change requests.
- Provides engineering direction and direct feedback to other engineers through design reviews and concept evaluations.
- Provides status updates of all activities to supporting organizations and leadership team. Handles several issues simultaneously.
- Supports job quoting and tool run processes by developing alternate tool configurations to accommodate customer needs.
- Gains a thorough knowledge of all aspects of ILI tools.
- Builds and integrates legacy tool information into new systems.
RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS
Reports to Mechanical Sustaining Engineering Supervisor, Global Support. Has frequent contact with customers, suppliers, sales, field services, product scheduling, engineering technicians, electrical engineering and manufacturing personnel within the North America and International Regions. Serves as a resource for Jr. Engineers and technicians to provide regular guidance and direction.
REQUIRMENTS
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and five to ten years relevant work experience. (Masters Degree preferred).
- Extensive experience applying mechanical engineering principles, practices and formal review procedures including ANSI dimensioning and geometric tolerances.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Extensive skills using Solidworks CAD tools, assembly manipulation, and FEM modeling required to design and evaluate tool designs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of tolerance stack analysis, broad materials knowledge and problem solving tools.
- Experience with Bill of Materials and change control, and documenting design iterations, and concepts.
- Ability to manage and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
