BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides electro-mechanical engineering support and applies sound engineering principles to the design of new products and/or the sustaining/modification of existing products.

Accountabilities:

  • Serves as a technical advisor and contributor to the assigned engineering group; provides calculations, sketches, drawings, and technical information required to complete assigned projects.
  • Provides assistance in developing new controls and instrumentation for company or other pipeline maintenance equipment including control requirements and methods.  Assists with the implementation of electrical/electronic hardware and software as required.
  • Serves as design engineer on assigned projects.
  • Conducts testing and substantiates the test results with proper documentation, ensuring that testing is in accordance with established Engineering and Quality Control procedures.
  • Builds and maintains knowledge of appropriate aspects of assigned products/projects with regard to applications, applicable codes, design standards and procedures, manufacturing techniques, etc., in order to provide technical assistance in a professional manner when requested.
  • Assists with the production of all necessary product documentation including manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and instructions, and operation and maintenance manuals for each new or modified product
  • Improves technical knowledge by reviewing technical papers/literature and attending appropriate seminars and workshops with the intent of applying latest technology to company products.
  • Provides technical assistance to Manufacturing and Services groups as required by Engineering Manager.
  • Provides technical assistance on subcontracted development and manufacturing projects.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

Reports to the Engineering Manager.  Has some contact with customers and frequently interfaces with Marketing, Sales, and Manufacturing personnel within company, and with external suppliers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • B.S. degree in Electrical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in an electro-mechanical engineering environment. 
  • Minimum of one year software, firmware and/or electro-mechanical hardware development experience.
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with MS-DOS and/or MS Windows product development tools, appropriate electro-mechanical engineering software and tools, and CAD/CAE systems.
