Demonstrations of the extraordinary FinalSTOPP technology at several trade shows as well as a special open house conducted by TDW in Houston, has garnered considerable attention. Those who attended the recent open house in Houston were able to witness the start of a new revolution. What they observed for the first time was the future of hot tapping and plugging created expressly for use in hostile conditions encountered in the petro-chemical industry that are not approachable with standard hot tapping and plugging equipment. TDW folded several pre-determined performance goals into the creation of FinalSTOPP technology: 1. The designed working environment for FinalSTOPP includes previously prohibitive combinations of extreme heat to 1,000°F, pressures to 1,480 psi, plus the added factors of caustic chemicals. 2. A patent pending metal-to-metal sealing process provides 100-percent bi-directional sealing with no leaks and no elastomers. The FinalSTOPP seal is established outside of the pipe on a fabricated and controlled machine surface rather than inside the pipe or on cut pipe surfaces that are imperfect and have been known to allow leaks. Once in place, FinalSTOPP seals can be maintained for extended periods of time. 3. Double block and bleed functionality seals both upstream and downstream and allows pressure to be bled out of the fitting which provides additional safety to personnel working downstream of the fitting. Pressure inside the fitting can be continuously monitored to assure the upstream seal. In the unlikely event of an upstream leak, the downstream seal will continue to protect personnel working downstream. 4. In contrast to conventional STOPPLE® applications, this high temperature plugging tool can be set in a flowing pipeline without the need for a tandem. Features include packing and seals for elevated temperatures with redundant sealing to provide added block and bleed sealing safety. 5. Remote operation capabilities allow technicians to perform plugging functions and utilize FinalSTOPP in areas with restricted working space or potentially hazardous conditions. 6. New high temperature weld procedures were developed by the Edison Welding Institute and qualified by TDW welders for specially designed fittings. Although TDW's FinalSTOPP Metal-to-Metal Plugging Service was developed with the petro-chemical industry in mind, it is also a technology that is especially effective for use in high consequence areas requiring no leaks, in support of critical services, dealing with poor internal pipe conditions, and for situations in which there is a fluid incompatibility with elastomers. Industry applications include refineries, chemical plants, power plants, ethylene plants, pipelines, nuclear, and pulp and paper mills. TDW is now quoting on service for 3-inch through 12-inch lines.
