THIRTY / THIRTY : Extreme Concurrent Projects

It goes without saying at T.D. Williamson, Inc., that we can do the job, whatever it
is, wherever it is, no matter what the circumstances. Especially in all types of weather! "We proved this last March with our '30-30' jobs going on at the same time, in different parts of the world," says David Vandersmissen, TDW Service Center Manager, Nivelles, Belgium. The projects were dubbed '30-30' because of the extreme temperatures at the locations: -30ºC and +30ºC, (-22ºF and 86ºF). Not only were the temperatures extreme, but the job sites were in the remote areas of Nigeria and the Siberian wilderness.

+30º C
The first assignment was
just north of the equator
in Nigeria outside Port Harcourt. The job was a double STOPPLE® operation requiring taps on 28- and
24-inch natural gas lines and installing 16-inch bypasses. During the job TDW technicians dealt with tropical rains, high humidity, temperatures as high as 95ºF, and mosquitoes.

Double STOPPLE®
operation in Nigeria

In addition to weather, this job required several pieces of equipment not readily available in Nigeria. This meant coordinating the logistics of moving equipment by sea and air and through Nigerian customs. Our capability to mobilize equipment in a world market makes TDW a valuable international partner.

-30º C
Seventy degrees latitude to the north the weather was 108 degrees colder. It was dry, the wind was blowing, and there was snow on the ground. This second job was in the Siberian wilderness, 93 miles (150 km) north of the Arctic Circle.

The project was a 40-inch horizontal tap on a 56-inch gas line that took three days. Technicians completed the first bundled job in Russia, which included project management, fitting manufacture, welding, hot tapping, and plug setting. The next bundled project is scheduled for spring 2005.

Whether it's hot or cold, wet or dry, remote or close, large or small, TDW will be there with the best technicians and the best equipment to get the job done.
