According to Morton, various organizations within the Chinese energy industry are quite familiar with TDW. They consider TDW to be the leader in their product categories and have been using and accumulating TDW equipment for at least 14 years. Chinese technicians have trained at the TDW Tulsa training center in the past, but this time each TDW client opted for a package that included equipment as well as on-site training for their technicians. After landing in Beijing, Morton was off to the city of Maoming located on the southern coast just a short distance from the Gulf of Tonkin and a little west of Hong Kong. Jackie notes Maoming has developed as a refining center where tankers offload at the port facility and refined products are sent via pipeline to a sizeable region of the country. Working closely with Stanley Li, General Manager of TDW China, Morton trained a group of technicians on the operation of the model 860 Tapping Machine in preparation for use on a 20-inch transport line of refined products. Darrell Trout conducted his training sessions in the city of Wuhan, also south of Beijing but located more in the east-central part of China and a considerable distance from the coast. Upon his arrival, Trout found a 30-foot long, 28-inch pressurized section of X70 heavywall pipe had been prepared for his classes with a model 1200 Tapping Machine. Jenny Yan of TDW China provided valuable assistance during some very long work days that sometimes lasted to 8:00 p.m. or later. Despite long days and short nights, Morton and Trout both agreed that their trip to China was one of the best all around professional travel experiences they have had. "That was one of the cleanest, politest and most respectful countries I've ever been in," said Trout. Students at each training session were inquisitive. "Basically, the job went perfect," said Trout. "I'd go back again in a minute!" Should you spend a moment talking to LineMaster Training Center Manager Richard Ryan, you will learn that he is receiving steadily increasing requests for top level training services. Sending out TDW trainers and teaching classes in locations scattered around the world is becoming a common occurrence. In fact, as of this writing, Darrell Trout is in Peru putting another class of technicians through their paces. The new, TDW state-of-the-art Nivelles Training Center in Belgium opened its doors in March of 2005 and services Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Perfectly complimenting the A.B. Steen Technology Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Nivelles Training Center features a dedicated training lab complete with an overhead crane. The facility provides students with hands-on experience in assembling and operating equipment. There is also a theater-style classroom with advanced multi-media tools. Between the lab and the multi-media classroom, students receive a thorough training experience. To assure a quality learning environment, TDW training centers accommodate all student cultural requirements including language, religious practices, meals and scheduling. According to Richard Ryan, demand for training both domestically and internationally is very high. International training includes considerable activity generated by new construction, in addition to the training of new technicians required to maintain existing pipelines. Domestically, DOT operator regulations are driving a considerable amount of training activity. TDW also utilizes our world-class training facilities to keep our own service technicians working and trained to peak performance levels.
